Melissa Thornley operates at the intersection of the left brain and right brain. Specializing in emotional intelligence and instinctive working styles, she delivers customized group and individual programming to organizations large and small.
Melissa is known for her contagious energy and unwavering passion for turning intangible concepts into tangible outcomes. A blend of collaboration and customization ensures her clients get the results they want. Whether it’s in person group sessions, virtual one-to-one coaching or hybrid multi-session programs, emotional intelligence always serves as the foundation.
Her leadership perspective draws from her years of experience as an executive in the advertising and film industry. Melissa led companies and creative teams in Chicago, New York, and London, working with esteemed clients including McDonald’s, Nike, Capital One, Coca-Cola and PBS.
As the former Chicago Director of the Institute for Management Studies, Melissa collaborated with talent and leadership departments of Fortune 500 companies on leadership initiatives to serve emerging leaders to senior level executives.
She serves as Board President for Free Spirit Media, a non profit organization located in Chicago’s west side. Free Spirit Media partners with youth storytellers to deliver programming that provides workforce development alongside transformational healing opportunities within the North Lawndale community.
In addition to her traditional business background, she often draws upon her training in improv and mindfulness. She keeps her own creative juices flowing through dance, yoga, and writing.
Melissa holds certifications in three leadership assessments: Kolbe, which looks at natural strengths and problem-solving instincts; the EQi2.0, which measures the skills that make up emotional intelligence; and the IDI which assesses intercultural competence to achieve inclusion, diversity, equity and access goals and outcomes. She’s also certified by the ICF (International Coaching Federation) as well as the Coaches Training Institute.
